Biography

Maria Napoli is an artist that currently resides in Louisville KY, but is originally from the Philadelphia area. She is a painter working primarily in oil, but also uses watercolor and ink. Maria was trained at Moore College of Art and Design in Philadelphia, PA. She has exhibited in galleries throughout the Philadelphia, New Jersey, New York, and Louisville Kentucky area. She is also the owner of Maria Napoli Studio, a boutique gallery in Louisville KY. The work is focused on communication through abstract images, using stream of consciousness as a main source of inspiration.  Maria has had a longstanding interest in the unseen and spiritual/energetic forces at play in the world. Creating is a form of channeling, and Maria has studied and developed her senses to tune into the more unknown forces around us. She works as a psychic medium in addition to her painting.

Techniques

The oil pieces are painted with brush and a thin palette knife.  There are no stamps or blocks used. Each shape is individually built with the use of brush and knife in combination or singularly.  Dry brushing is used to blend colors while on the canvas, creating subtle color changes, beyond which is created while building the palette, the first "painting" were the color foundations are built before any mark is placed on the canvas.  Hundreds of strokes are employed to create the smooth, atmospheric surface of the painting.  Alternating the texture of the paint adds to the feeling of depth in the pieces.  The interworking of all of these techniques builds the final image.

Statement

I paint the peace and resonance of joy in everything around us so that you may look upon my work and find that same peace and resonance within yourself. These paintings are guides, blueprints, and most importantly reminders of what is present and possible when we slow down and connect to the same energy that lives within each of us. They are here to remind you of who you are. Raise your resonance.

Self discovery is always the result of dedicated artistic practice, even if not the original intention of the work. It connects us to places we would not otherwise encounter. My hope is that these paintings and art inspired pieces help you to be still and present, building a meditative energy in all the places you inhabit.
