City and Sky was completed in 2018. I painted this piece at a time when I was returning to a few select arts festivals, one of which was located in Pittsburgh, in the Shadyside neighborhood. I feel that all I have explored in painting came together in this work, to create a version of the Pittsburgh skyline and experience. it is the birthplace of my mother, and those roots have flowed through me. I was able to become acquainted with this part of my ancestry, through my love of art, over the thirteen years I participated in the Three Rivers Arts Festival. Discovering family history, and visiting the places my mother spoke of so fondly, has grown my love for this city.
